NAGC awards underscore the association’s high standards of professionalism in public service. An annual Distinguished Service Award bestows the organization’s highest honor on a member; Awards of Excellence recognize government agencies or individuals for significant achievement; and Service Awards are presented to members for noteworthy service.
NAGC rewards excellence in the field of communications with awards in over forty categories in the annual Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Awards. Please check back at the end of November for information on the 2020 BP&GS Awards.
The Communicator of the Year Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in government communications during the previous year.
2019 NAGC Communicator of the Year Announced:
Allison J. Fouché Honored at 2019 NAGC Communications School in Arlington, Virginia
“Her nomination was not based on one event but a body of her work over the year. She did all the things we do every day with an eye toward excellence, humility, and an acknowledgement that she does not act alone,” said Kathryn Stokes, NAGC Immediate Past President.
The association honored Fouché at the annual national Blue Pencil & Gold Screen Awards ceremony, which is part of the 2019 NAGC Communications School in Arlington, Virginia, at the Crystal City Hilton. Communicator of the Year is the most prestigious award for government communications professionals in the nation.
Fouché has 20 years of experience as a communicator. As Deputy Chief Communications Officer for Memphis, Fouché is tasked with branding city government, which includes the mayor’s office, the Office of Business Diversity & Compliance, Police Services, Fire Services, Human Resources, the Parks & Neighborhoods Division and Memphis Public Libraries (18 locations), among others.
“Our goal in the City of Memphis is to communicate with our customers where they are,” said Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland. “Allison’s creativity and expertise have allowed us to better explain city services throughout all our neighborhoods and communities.”
Before her current position, she worked as Strategic Marketing Coordinator for Memphis Light, Gas, and Water (MLGW), where she won the American Public Gas Association Marketing and Sales Award for the company’s CNG Strategic Plan and wrote the winning proposal for the Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award for Clean Air.
Fouché has a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University and a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Middle Tennessee State University. She is a board member for Hattiloo Theatre, a performing arts theatre in Memphis. Fouché is married to Robert Fouché. They have three children.
